A minivan, or MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), is a family car with a cabin for about five to eight people, built around interior space and multiple seat rows rather than ride height. It is easier to get in and out of than an SUV and easier to drive in town than a van.
SUVs and PPVs use a taller body for rough roads, while an MPV puts comfort and cabin space first. Read What is an SUV? for the differences between body styles, or browse used vans if your family needs more than seven seats.
In the Thai used market, "small van" usually means a Japanese kei vehicle such as the Daihatsu Hijet, most of them imported. On Talata, a minivan is a family MPV sold in Thailand, such as the Sienta, Xpander, Innova or Carnival.
| Group | Example models | Rear doors | Common engines | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Compact MPV | Sienta, Freed, Ertiga | Sliding (Sienta, Freed) / hinged (Ertiga) | 1.4–1.5L petrol | City driving, small families |
| Mid-size MPV | Xpander, Innova | Hinged | 1.5L petrol / diesel / hybrid | Families of 5–7, long trips |
| Large MPV | Kia Carnival | Sliding on both sides | 2.2L diesel | Large families wanting van-like comfort |
The Toyota Sienta and Honda Freed have sliding rear doors and are small and easy to park, so older passengers and young children get in and out easily. The Suzuki Ertiga has conventional doors but is usually the budget pick. The Toyota Avanza and Veloz sit in the same segment.
Most Mitsubishi Xpanders use a 1.5-litre petrol engine and ride higher than typical MPVs, with an SUV-styled Xpander Cross and an Xpander Cross HEV hybrid. The Toyota Innova is larger. The Crysta uses diesel engines such as the 2.8-litre, while the newer Innova Zenix is a 2.0-litre hybrid. If you often travel upcountry with a full car, the Innova has the edge in rear-seat space. Browse by brand on used Mitsubishi and used Toyota.
The Kia Carnival and Grand Carnival sold in Thailand are 11-seat MPVs with a near van-size cabin that still drive like a car. Later models use a 2.2-litre diesel, and they usually cost clearly less than a used Alphard of a similar year.
Used MPV prices run from just over 100,000 baht for older compact models to more than a million for newer large ones. Model and generation matter most, followed by trim, power sliding doors, hybrid systems, mileage, service history and the condition of the seats and carpets.
The practical approach is to open several listings of the same model and year on this page and compare mileage against price.
Count the people who ride with you regularly, not the maximum seat count. The third row in a Sienta or Ertiga suits children or short trips. If six or seven adults often travel long distances, look at an Innova or a Carnival.
For city driving, choose a small petrol engine or a hybrid. For regular upcountry or hill trips, a high-torque diesel is more relaxed. Also ask for a photo of the boot with all seats up, since many MPVs have almost no luggage space in that layout.
Run through the basics in our used car buying process, then check these MPV-specific points.
Most MPVs are registered as private passenger cars with up to seven seats (Ror Yor 1) and taxed by engine size: 0.50 baht per cc for the first 600 cc, 1.50 baht per cc from 601 to 1,800 cc, and 4 baht per cc above 1,800 cc. A 1,500 cc car therefore pays about 1,650 baht a year, with discounts from year 6 rising to 50% from year 10.
The 11-seat Kia Carnival and Grand Carnival are registered as private cars with more than seven seats (Ror Yor 2), which are taxed by vehicle weight instead, for example 1,900 baht a year for 2,001–2,500 kg. Check the seat count and vehicle type in the blue book (registration book) before working out costs. See the full Department of Land Transport tax rate tables.
MPV buyers look closely at the cabin, so ads with complete photos and details attract more serious buyers.

Talata brings used minivan and MPV listings into one page you can filter by year, price and mileage, so comparing an Xpander with an Innova, or a Sienta with a Freed, takes minutes. Then message the seller directly. Not set on an MPV yet? Compare every type of used car.
For sellers, your ad appears where family-car buyers are already looking, and you deal with buyers yourself without a middleman. Always check the registration book and the car in person before agreeing on a deal. When you're ready, start on Talata.
Yes, though most are older models such as the Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Wish or an earlier Kia Carnival. Expect high mileage and budget for maintenance. Listings in this range come and go quickly, so filter by price on this page regularly.
Compare the mileage with the car's age first, since work vehicles usually have far higher mileage than private cars of the same year, and the second row is often more worn than the driver's seat. Ask the seller directly and request the service book.
Start from current listings of the same model, year and similar mileage, then adjust for condition. Mention a full dealer service history in the ad. For more detail, see estimate used car price.
Yes, as long as the ad clearly states the finance status, because Talata does not accept listings for repossessed cars or cars with unclear financial conditions. The buyer can settle the loan before transfer, or you can apply for a hire purchase contract transfer so the buyer takes over the payments.
Talata lists the Kia Carnival and Grand Carnival as minivans, matching how Kia describes them as 11-seat family MPVs. If you are comparing them with an Alphard or Hyundai H-1, browse the used vans page as well.
